Electronic powerhouse Nyxen toaday releases her latest single ‘Nightmare’ alongside the announcements of her new label Tank Top Records and her signing of exclusive global recording and publishing deals with BMG.
Tokyo-born, Sydney-based Nyxen (aka Chelsea Lester) has had an explosive career since she first arrived on the scene in 2015. Amassing millions of streams and garnering a loyal following in the process, she’s graced some of Australia’s brightest stages, sold out her own headline shows, supported the likes of Crooked Colours and Golden Features, had multiple songs added to triple j rotation and become one of the country’s most revered multi-instrumentalists, producers and artists. Now, in 2020, she turns a new leaf and commences another promising chapter with even more challenges she can’t wait to overcome.
The new single ‘Nightmare’ continues Nyxen’s exploration of 80s influences seamlessly weaved together with her vocals. Showcasing her darker, high-energy club roots, ‘Nightmare’ provides a taste of Nyxen’s highly anticipated debut album, which will be released via Tank Top/BMG.
Explaining the meaning and sonics behind the track, Nyxen said, “Nightmare is a commentary on the dawn at the end of a relationship where you kind of snap back to reality and realise you should probably let go and move on. With Nightmare the goal was to get the synths and vocals to work together in a way that portrays the aggressiveness/spiralling of heartbreak while simultaneously being a gritty dance bop that any heartbroken person can dance their troubles away to. Hope you vibe.”
In addition to the advent of new music, Nyxen now turns her sights to the next challenges in the form of her own record label, Tank Top Records. Created as a platform to release music by artists whom Nyxen herself believes in and works with; she sees Tank Top Records as more of a family than anything else.
To celebrate the release of ‘Nightmare’ and launch of Tank Top Records, Nyxen will be playing at UOW Unibar in Wollongong on Saturday 14 November and The Lansdowne in Sydney on Saturday 21 November.
As she steps back onto centre stage, the only thing for certain is Nyxen is set to continue to defy expectations and do what she does best.
